Yep going off of the topic of beauty for a sec!
I’m a bit of a bookworm. One of my favourite authors of late is Haruki Murakami. He’s a Japanese author who’s been writing for decades but I only found out about him by chance approximately 2 years ago. (I happened to notice the front cover of one of his books at my local library, borrowed the book, and loved it! That book was After Dark.) He writes novels as well as short stories.
Each of his books are unique in their own way but at the same time there are some common patterns. Often he writes about parallel worlds/alternate realities, and there is a philosophical flavour to a lot of his work (in my opinion). Usually the story is set in the modern day and the main characters can often be quite unassuming types, on the surface. The way in which he describes very simple or seemingly ordinary things is pretty awesome – too bad my Japanese is nowhere near good enough to read any of his works in the original Japanese format! π¦
One of his most famous books is Norwegian Wood which was recently made into a feature film. I haven’t seen it yet as I’m not sure I want to; it’s a great book but SO sad! π¦ Also I can get a bit fussy with films that are based on movies as if the plot doesn’t quite match what I am expecting (i.e. the plot of the original book) it throws me off! LOL π
Earlier this month his latest book, 1Q84, was officially released in Australia. I’ve seen it, I’ve read about it, and I can’t wait to actually read it for myself!!!! *fingers crossed tight* Hopefully my hints to family and friends will be picked up and I’ll get it for Christmas (“chrissie” = Christmas in Aussie English). π
I’m wondering if any of my readers and/or page visitors have read any of Murakami’s books? Who is your favourite author? π
If you celebrate Christmas, what’s on your Christmas wish list???
