nisim’s fast shampoo & conditioner

Happy Monday, and Happy Halloween, all! 🙂

This post is not about Halloween, but in the spirit of that here’s a link to a makeup tutorial for a Chobits costume I’d love to do for Halloween – or an anime convention – courtesy of Michelle Phan: http://youtu.be/avmtk5DJWBs 😉

One thing I’m always on the lookout for is good products for my hair. This is because I have been growing my hair out from its quite short and asymmetrical hairstyle since February! So I had been (note the past tense ;)) keen to find any products that could help me grow my hair faster.

A friend told me about Canadian company NISIM’s “FAST” products, so I gave them a try. I purchased my shampoo and conditioner from an Aussie supplier from eBay which was the best way to go, as shipping Canada –> Australia for it was huge! (As per the calculations on the NISIM website’s checkout.)

fast shampooThe selling point of FAST is that they report your hair will grow several times faster due to the unique amino acid and other vitamin goodies the shampoo and conditioner contains. (FAST stands for Fortified Amino Scalp Therapy. You can read more direct on their site here.)

The logical part of me wondered how my hair – which of course is dead once past the scalp – could absorb the vitamins better through shampoo compared to me eating healthily and adding relevant vitamin supplements. However I thought I’d give it a chance – I was a keen bean!!!

So here are my thoughts…

Price range: I got a ~300mL bottle of the shampoo and the conditioner for approx. $50 AUD including postage. (Now that would get you a massive TIGI shampoo and conditioner, to put it in perspective.)

Where can I buy it? Direct from NISIM’s website, in various stores in the USA and Canada, and via eBay is cheapest for those here in Oz.

Well ideally you are meant to use the product on your hair every day. I don’t wash my hair every day (every second day as that suits my hair best), but used it every single time I did, and used it over a 6 month period.

The product’s scent is not great, but not horrible either (if you try it you’ll know what I mean). So I think I did well to stick out my trial of the product for so long! 😉

Hair is meant to grow approx 1cm a month, and mine usually grows that much. Sad to report, despite only using this shampoo and conditioner for all that time, my hair did NOT grow any faster than usual! FAST has a Facebook page and I politely gave them my feedback – they advised that if you do not see any dramatic increases in the rate of your hair growth within a month or so “it is not going to work for you”. Humph! This is not such a big deal for those in the USA and Canada, as in those locations they offer a money back guarantee (ONLY if you buy direct from NISIM’s website), but is disappointing elsewhere.

Whilst using this product I did a lot of internet research on hair and things to help it grow. Biotin (which also happens to be in the FAST shampoo) is said to be a helpful supplement. So after I stopped using the FAST I gave supplements a try for 3 months, on top of my daily multivitamin… Also made no difference but my fingernails grew much stronger which was nice! 🙂 (Interesting isn’t it as both our hair and nails are made of keratin.)

Hmm, overall I should’ve known better, right? This product does have mixed reviews on several YouTube channels!

NISIM also make other products for hair including products that are said to treat baldness… hmm from the experience I’ve had with the FAST I wouldn’t spend any big $ on that either!

To add some additional context: my diet is fairly healthy (but not perfect!), my hair type is fine but thick (hairdressers have often had to thin out my hair when styling it in the past), and I am a packet brunette (colour every 6 weeks – roots), natural colour a light mousey brown.

Beautiful rating: quality 1/5, value 1/5 – it does not do what it reports to do, at least not on my hair! 😦

PS. ~*~WELCOME!~*~ to all my new Facebook fans, readers, and followers, and hello to the old faithful! 🙂 I appreciate you taking the time to read and support my blog and I hope that you enjoy it – as that is the point after all! All feedback appreciated and I enjoy a healthy discussion, so do feel free to comment on my posts! 😉

PPS. Since stopping use of this shampoo and conditioner, I have switched to a sulfate and paraben free shampoo and conditioner and my hair is the best its ever been. I recommend this to everyone and will do a review on the ones I use in the future. I’m still not at my goal length yet (which is roughly 1/2 way between chin and shoulders)!
